The first ever SBGrid user summit 'Quo Vadis Structural Biology?' took place on May 5th and 6th 2008 in Boston, Massachusetts. There were a number of talks and workshops that focused on structural biology computing.
The two-day conference included lectures and hands-on computing lab sessions. Our speakers were Axel Brunger, Niko Grigorieff, James Chou, Mark Gerstein, David E. Shaw, Joachim Frank, Frank Delaglio and others.
There were two tracks of hands-on workshops. The first track focused on tools and techniques for using structural biology software. The second track was of a more general technical nature and focused on building your own tools and computing infrastructure to support your research needs.
The structural biology workshops were lead by industry veterans including Paul Emsley (low resolution model building), Ralf Grosse-Kunstleve (structure determination with Phenix), Naomi Chayen (protein crystallization), Gael MacGill (animation), Woody Sherman (in-silico screening) and
others.
The technical track included workshops led by Harry Powell (computing and programming with CCP4), David Gohara (introduction to Apple technologies for scientists) and Ian Stokes-Rees (Python for scientists).
These are just a few of the hands-on workshops; please see the Quo Vadis conference website for a complete listing.
