EMAN2 has undergone dramatic changes in the last year, both in expanding its capabilities to in-situ (CryoET) segmentation and high-resolution high-speed subtomogram averaging, as well as with traditional single particle analysis. New deep-learning technology in EMAN2 permits automatic segmentation of cellular tomograms as well as highly accurate particle picking in single particle analysis. Even more recently, a novel computational approach based on robust invariants is now permitting extremely rapid classification and 3-D refinement. For example, a 70,000 particle data set of 320x320 particles can be processed into class-averages in under 10 minutes on a single stand alone workstation, without GPU, and the same data set can be refined to ~3.5 Å resolution in a few hours on the same workstation.
