On Friday November 7, 2008 SBGrid hosted the first quarterly gathering of New England Open Science Grid (OSG) members and prospective members. Professor Miron Livny (Technical Director of OSG), provided an overview of US collaborative computing based on OSG and perspectives on the opportunities for accelerated discoveries through grid-enabled science. Attendees from Harvard, Northeastern University, the Broad Institute, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center discussed the challenges of shared computing environments and the interface between IT and collaborative research. SBGrid will be organizing future meetings in 2009 with themes of security and data management.
