# CrashPlan backups (HMS local accounts)

Laptop and desktop systems at HMS must be backed up with Code42 CrashPlan through HMS IT.

Setup CrashPlan

Install and sign up

1) Install the Code42 application using the HMS instructions linked above. 2) Launch Code42 and click the blue link "Sign up for an account". 3) Sign in with your HMS email (for example, first_last@hms.harvard.edu) or the email associated with your eCommons account.

  • This is not your crystal.harvard.edu or SBGrid account. 4) Enter your eCommons/HMS password when prompted.

HMS settings

Follow the HMS knowledge base article for any required server/organization settings. If a registration code is required, obtain it directly from HMS IT. Do not use codes from old documentation.

Notes

  • If the Code42 sign-in screen does not show the "Sign up for an account" link, follow the HMS knowledge base article above for the correct screen flow.
  • Refer to the HMS links above for current platform downloads and any updated instructions.
  • If you do not have permission an HMS email address or do not have permission to use the crashplan service email help@sbgrid.org and we may be able to get you access or assist in other backup options.
