Connecting to CMCD VPN

The first thing you need to do is email the SBGrid at help@sbgrid.org for the Shared Secret.

Configuration

1. Click on the Apple Menu and select System Preferences
2. Click on Network
3. Unlock the panel by clicking on the padlock and enter the username and password of an admin user.
4. Click on the '+' sign to Create a New Service
5. In the dropdown window enter the following:
   • Interface is VPN
   • Type is L2TP over IPSec
   • Enter a Service Name, ie: CMCD VPN
6. Then Click on Create.
7. The Network Window will change and you need to enter the following:
   • Server Address: vpn.sbgrid.org
   • Account Name: Enter your username. * This is the username you use to connect to crystal, and other CMCD services.
8. Next Click on Authentication Settings
9. In the Window that appears enter the following: * Enter your password under User Authentication
   • Enter the shared secert that the SBGrid emailed you.
   • Click OK.
10. Check the box Show VPN status in menu bar
11. Click Apply.

Connect

To connect to the VPN, open the VPN menu in the menu bar by clicking on it and and click on "Connect".

You'll see the word Connecting scroll across, and once the connection is complete a timer will start.

Disconnect

When you want to disconnect from the VPN simply open the VPN menu, and select Disconnect.
